How Networking Opened New Doors for My Creative Business | Behind the Scenes at Marketing & Mimosas

Updated: Oct 4

Last year, I took a leap!

I pitched myself to Marketing & Mimosas, Atlanta’s #1 marketing brunch event. I didn’t know what would come of it, but I fully trusted in what I bring to the table as a creative and content strategist. I wasn’t there to speak on stage or lead a workshop. I wanted to support the magic happening behind the scenes, capturing the energy of ambitious women building their brands.

And they said yes!

That moment turned into so much more than a sponsorship opportunity. It became a real connection point—a chance to build relationships, share my gifts, and be seen. This year, I’m returning for the second year in a row as part of the Media Team, trusted to document the experience through my lens.

3 Ways Networking Helped Me Grow My Business

1. Visibility That Feels Aligned

I didn’t wait for someone to invite me. I reached out with intention, pitched my value, and aligned myself with an event that matched my energy. Showing up in spaces where your ideal clients and collaborators gather is powerful. Sometimes, all it takes is one bold email or DM!

2. Real Relationships > Followers

I’ve made connections at Marketing & Mimosas 2024 that turned into clients, partnerships, and friendships. There’s something special about face-to-face conversations, hugs, and shared laughter over brunch. It’s a reminder that your brand is more than your feed; it’s the way people feel when they meet you.

3. Creative Confidence

Creating in the moment—snapping photos, offering content strategy ideas, and hyping up women as they walked into their next big opportunity—helped me refine my skills and stretch creatively. I walked away inspired and re-energized in my purpose.

Thinking of Attending a Networking Event? Here Are My Tips:

  1. Show up prepared – Bring your business cards, elevator pitch, and energy. You never know who’s in the room.

  2. Be of service – Lead with value, not just what you want. Ask yourself: “How can I support or collaborate?”

  3. Document the experience – Whether through photos, reels, or journaling, capturing your presence at events becomes great content and a brand journal you’ll look back on.

The Power of Networking

Networking isn’t just about exchanging business cards. It’s about building relationships that can lead to amazing opportunities. When I first started my journey, I was nervous. I didn’t know if I could connect with others. But I took a deep breath and jumped in!

Embrace the Uncertainty

Every networking event is a new adventure. You never know who you’ll meet or what you’ll learn. Embrace the uncertainty! Each conversation is a chance to grow. I remember my first event; I was terrified! But I ended up meeting someone who became a mentor. That connection changed everything for me.

Follow Up

After the event, don’t forget to follow up! A simple message can go a long way. Thank them for their time and mention something specific from your conversation. This shows you care and helps solidify the connection.

Share Your Journey

Don’t be shy about sharing your journey. People love to hear stories! Whether it’s a success or a challenge, sharing helps others relate to you. It builds trust and opens doors for collaboration.

Have you ever pitched yourself for an opportunity that paid off?
